6 Things to Know About Invisalign Treatment
6 Things to Know About Invisalign Treatment
Are you looking for an Invisalign dentist in the West Village? Curious to know some more about Invisalign treatment? Here are 6 things patients often don’t know about Invisalign before starting treatment. Keith Bracy, DDS is always here to answer your Invisalign questions in person! Just call us at 212-390-8399 or book an appointment online for a complimentary Invisalign consult.
1) The Invisalign Diet!
Invisalign clear aligners must be worn 20+hours a day. Ideally, 22-23 hours to achieve optimum results. They can easily be removed for eating and drinking, and your teeth should be brushed and flossed before reinserting the aligners. Thus, many of our patients cut down on snacks and beverages since they do not want to brush before reinserting the aligners. Dr. Bracy affectionately refers to this as the “invisalign diet”. Patient compliance with aligner wear time is the most important factor in achieving the best results – if you can’t stick to proper aligner wear time, then Invisalign isn’t for you.
2) All Clear Aligners Are Not The Same
Chances are that you have seen many different clear aligner brands advertised online and even in the subway. They all promise very good results, excellent pricing and try to win your trust as a patient. The truth is although most clear aligners have many common features, Invisalign is unique in the details. If you look closely at different aligners, you will see that Invisalign aligners are trimmed at the gum line. This makes them much more comfortable. Also, Invisalign is the only brand with a bioengineered material called SmartTrack. You can actually see the tracks on the aligners if you look extremely close! Finally, compared to do-it-yourself brands, Invisalign aligners use attachments to make tooth movements highly efficient, saving you time and making your results more predictable.
3) Braces and Orthodontists Are Not Dead
Invisalign and clear aligner therapy has greatly advanced and evolved in the last 2 decades, however, it is not the ideal treatment for every case and orthodontic problem. Know your orthodontic diagnosis before starting clear aligner therapy and if there are any other treatment options. Sometimes, other orthodontic appliances should be used in combination with Invisalign treatment. This is especially true for teenagers and growing adults. Sometimes there are surgical options that would make your final outcome a lot better! At Keith Bracy, DDS, we believe in honest and ethical dental treatment. If your case if not for Invisalign or better in the hands of an Orthodontist, we will let you know.
4)You Must Wear Retainers After Invisalign
Like any orthodontic treatment, you need to wear a retainer or consider a retention option to keep your teeth in the final, aligned position. Teeth and gums have remarkable memory, and can relapse if you don’t wear a retainer after treatment. At Keith Bracy, DDS we fabricate Vivera retainers from a digital scan of your teeth after treatment. You get 4 sets of Vivera retainers with your treatment and Dr. Bracy will advise a customized retainer schedule for your teeth.
5) Be Informed about Invisalign Discounts, Invisalign Specials and Diamond Pricing
Wherever you go for dental treatment or Invisalign, the price should be upfront, clear and easy to understand. Each Invisalign provider sets the price for Invisalign in their practice. It is largely based on the level and complexity of the case, number of aligners, experience and other expenses unique to that practice. Some practices may entice you with a low Invisalign fee, but then change a more expensive fee for the retainers. Some charge if additional aligners are needed during the case or for refinement, others do not. Some practices charge for the Invisalign consultation, scan, impressions and x-rays, while others do not. The point is to know what you are paying for and not to be surprised with additional fees during or after treatment. At Keith Bracy, DDS we do not charge fees for Invisalign consultations, Invisalign scans or records. We also include 4 sets of Vivera retainers with your treatment.
Also, if you are enticed to go with a do-it-yourself or “teledentistry” clear aligner brand due to a low monthly price, don’t be fooled into believing Invisalign will do a lot of damage to your budget in comparison. Most Invisalign providers offer courtesy discounts, interest free financing and low monthly payments as well. Also, many cases are eligible for a lower Invisalign fee if they fall within a certain number of aligners.
6) Invisalign Treatment is In-person Doctor Directed
Clear aligner therapy is an investment in your health, appearance and well-being. It takes commitment, time, and finances. And with Invisalign, a dentist or orthodontist you know and trust is in charge and accountable for your treatment. Your treatment plan is customized to your needs and desires by your dentist and you will make progress visits during treatment. During these progress visits, all the details of your treatment are reviewed such as aligner fit, aligner wear time, attachment retention, proper spacing and progress in tooth movement. If anything is going off course, you have the opportunity to correct it with a progress tracking scan or refinement.
